Hi, I just picked up a used HOB filter for like 1 dollar. The old owner fixed some cracks on the tube with duck tape but I know that the chemicals in the duck tape are bad for the fish. Is there a way to wash the tape chemicals off and just use super glue?
edit: I have a sponge internal filter that I plan to use for my 5 gal. I just wanted to buy the HOB filter as backup since it was so cheap.

Thanks everyone!

Rubbing alcohol would work better, lol. Vinegar is just my go to for cleaning just about everything, since it is aquarium safe.

I use duct tape to hold black cardboard against the back of my aquariums. I use rubbing alcohol, such as @WhistlingBadger badger suggests, on a thoroughly rinsed blue non-scratch Scotch scrubbing pad to remove the glue residue. It does take a bit of effort but once it starts coming off it comes off pretty easily. I find a scrub pad helps because the alcohol just softens the residual glue but doesn't dissolve it. I always rinse or wash the scrub pads to remove any thing they might have added to them during the manufacturing and packaging.

what do I do with the rubbing alcohol? do I rub? soak? rinse?
Read the directions in the link I attached above. It's pretty easy, and since rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly, you can just give it a rinse in warm water, let it dry, and it's ready to go.

Upon closer inspection, there is glue residue???
