I used to buy from this large supplier of aquarium products and meds. I went to order something from them and they no longer exist after being bought out by Petco in early 2019. Petco was in turn bought out by a private equity firm. Read all about it in this interesting article.

It's just a short history of the company then a longer history of how they were bought and sold to different places, eventually to Petco and since they employ so many people in that area of Wisconson that it's going to cause unemployment to rise. Too bad they were a good company. Always got their catalogs.

Big fish eat little fish...so to speak. If you're big enough in business, you can buy your competition...and sadly, in some cases, then shut them down! I'm not sure it always makes sense to eliminate a parallel revenue stream, since many loyal Foster & Smith customers would likely switch to other sources and not PetCo.
