My female betta has Dropsy. She has the pineconing scales, bloated belly with fluid, loss of color, the only thing she doesnt have is swollen eyes and refusal to eat. I have been treating her with maracyn 2 and adding epson salt to the tank. In the past week her belly has shrunken a bit, it's still very large, but it did shrink. Her appetite is great and she poos often, but she sits on the bottom all day except to get air and she has trouble swimming I guess due to the weight she is carrying?

On the maracyn 2 box it says you can give 2 treatments max, 5 days each. I have given both treatments over the past 2 weeks, and seen a small improvement, can I ever give her any more? How long should I wait?

when the fishes scale pine cone then its usually too late im affraid. dropsy is very difficult to cure and most meds wont have a long lasting effect. saltbaths will reduce the swelling by drawing the excess fluids from the fish which may make life easier for the fish.
if you are to try the treatment again i would run carbon through the filter for a few days then think about it again. ive had dropsy on a few praecox rainbows and nothingi did could help them imsorry to say.

good luck with it i hope you have more luck than i did

Ok my fishes scales are no longer pineconed, and the belly is almost looking normal? Could it be my fish did NOT have dropsy, or perhaps the medication worked somehow?
