Dropsy & Swim Bladder In My Platys

hi
i have 2 platy who are ill,ive done a lot of reserch and looked at pics in my fish book,but my book says both ilnesses will lead to death in both cases, below is the situation, and then my question.


1, male platy with swim bladder i think, for the last week he stays on the bottom of the tank,he trys to swim but slowly sinks again, i gave him some food but he made no effort to eat it.most of the time he lays on his side.

2, female platy she is pregnant but her belly has swollen so much more than normal,also under her belly has that pine cone look, not all over though,shes eating swimming as best she can, she was being hassled a lot by a male mollie but he got rehomed.

they are both in a hospital tank,
so my question is, will any meds work on either fish? if so what do i treat first?
i dont want to put them to sleep until i know ive done everything i can but i dont want them to suffer either.

I'd suggest try an anti-internal medication for them and try feeding them shelled softened peas. The male may just be constipated. Good luck with them.

Sadly the swim bladder desease has progressed so has the dropsy as once the scales stick out last stage of the desease organ failure.
Try some shelled peas for the swim bladder but it sounds to far gone, plus epson salts help with dropsy meant to help draw the fluids out, good luck.

ive been waiting to hear and hoping you would post.
hes made an effot to eat just now but did not manage any,when he was in the main tank i put in peas but he made no effort ive decided he will see his last day today,
as for the dropsy, i will see what she looks like tomorrow ,could i use melafix with the salt?
do you get epson salt from any local shop?

Try the chemist for the salt, melafix it's not going to do anything sorry, its internal, good luck.

i can get the salt tomorrow,its a 25ltr tank about 5gallon uk i think,
how much epson salt do i use and for how long.thanks donna.
