hello there, just to give a brief overview I part fishless cycled my tank, almost fully, ammonia returning to 0 in 12hours and nitrites in 16. On monday I got impaitient ( this is the second tank I have cycling)and bought 6 platys. bought 4 more on tuesday.
my tank is 90LK and has ammonia 0 nitrites 0 ever since. whenever my nitrAtes went above 20 I did a 50-75% waterchange.
on 12th, my twinbar cometplaty gave birth to an unknown number of fry, ( didnt see the births just saw a fry pop up to say hi) hen on 13th my other platy gave birth to 22 fry in a hatchery ( didnt want the same happening to her) we lost 4 fry, 2 were stillborn and mum cannabalised 2. so 18 fry. all was well. noticed strange darting behaviour but kept eye on it. this morning decided to take 3 male platy back to lfs for 3 females. introduced new fish to tank, all fine. water levels fine except nitrAtes wer 20ppm so did a waterchange. ok.
this eveing the new platy starts getting lethargic, slow, stop starting, and then went limp and died, so removed her. Had noticed than Honey the first twinbar mum hadnt lost her pregnancy belly, but kept an eye on her. This evening as I was inspecting the tank after loosing comet, I noticed that Honey still remained fat and had become more pink in colour around the head and that the right side had started pineconing scales, and looking red dottd. realised it was probably dropsy and removed her and euthanised her. sorry). ok now I notice about 2 of my females are sudenly looking very pregnant and are rushing about as are my 2 white ones, and rubbing themselves on plants and tank decorations. I did some research and I think they may have internal parasites as they have quite long strings of poo although not always white, they are eating almost ravenously, but nthe strange irratic swimming is worrying me. they rush and suddenly stop, turning on their side to bump into an object.one platy has a white spot on her caudal (tail) fin and one other on her pectoral fin too, although she does have a small gravid spot I'm noit sure if its pregnancy or dropsy.
sorry for long post but wanted to give you as much info as poss.

the tabk is a 90L aqua one tank temp is 24, pH 7.2
another thing, i found out that calciferous rock isnt good for my tank...is this true?

so should I get some sort of treatment tomorrow, and which one?

What test kit are you using.

Stop doing large water changes as it rare to have a nitrate reading of 0. Unless your tap nitrate reading 0, and you have live plants.

Test tap water in ph and nitrate.

How did you cycle the tank.
What do you feed the fish.
What do the fish gills look like. Do they look pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.

Red dots can be parasites to septicemia.
Darting can mean bad water quality, ph shock, parasites, bacterial, toxins, over dose of meds, stray voltage.

Pink areas can be bacterial. Any white edging around the pink area on the head.
The raised scales where were they on the fish.
Raised scales can be lumps beneath the skin, or parasites beneath the skin, dropsy, damage, bloating.

This doesnt sound good Lily, firstly just stop if you panicking you will probably do loads of things that just arnt nessessary, firstly id remove that rock or any suspicious rocks if your not sure. Secondly do 20% water changes a day, no more its better to do a few smaller water changes than to go over 50% unless its an emgency, ie knocking a bottle of meds in the tank. Next test your water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, the first two should be 0 and you should continue daily water changes until they remain so. The test the tapwater for nitrates, we have 20 in ours you may have some in yours also. You need to get your water right before you can treat the fish, no point putting meds in and chucking it all out in water changes. You can test and post the results and do a water change then will we see where we are. di

hello there guys,
I partly did a fishless cycle on this tank, and as of today its cycled....levels for past week have been
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates climb up to 20 then i waterchange50%
animals gills are pink ( not all of the fish have pink gills just 2 of them) white /black intermittant stringy poo, whitespot is my diagnosis. have raised the temp in the tank to kill the freeswimming parasite stage of the lifecycle of Ich. added a little salt to it too to aid recovery.

Ok.
Good luck.

those results look very good, do the fish itch, and have small cysts that look like grains of salt on their finns usually and maybe gills, other wise i think you may have a bacterial infection. di

OK, I think its defo whitespot, they are flicking, salt looking spots on fins....day 3 of treatment and spots are starting to disappear, tekp is up to 30 to kill the free swimming larvae stage of lifecycle....do they look like little thread like worms?? have seen quite a few little worm like creatures, hoping the dosing is killing them. took carbon out of filter prior to treatment and as I', having to do daily water changes at the moment I'm reloading the treatment with every 2 1/2 gallon bucket full of watwr going back in. thanks for the advise xx
