hi we have 4 red honey gouramis and one of them has dropsy. she has had it for a while and when we found out gave her the medicine and she seemed to be getting better but it never fully went away. she was still swolen and had the scales upturned,etc.. but she was simming around and eating (the first one there in at feeding time still!) but it seems to have got worse again and she is still swimming and first on the scene where food is concerned but she seems to not be very active now. will the visual appearance of the dropsy ever go away? will she be ok if we keep following through with the medicine? what should we do???

also we one of our other red honey gouramis is lathargic. this morning i cam down and she was near the bottom of the tank moving her fins but not actually moving. her dorsal fin is down and she looks pale-ish. any advice? she also isnt as big as the other 2 healthy ones (shorter in length and thinner in height of abdomen), and when we bought them ages ago there was one that was small. and didn seem to get bigger with the others. ANYWAY.. can anybody help me? please?

Personally, I've never heard of a proven cure for dropsy.......It'll be interresting if anyone can confirm a recorded success story....

One of my black mollies once had very severe dropsy. She was sooooo big with all her scales sticking out and she was face down (tail pointed up) so we were convinced she wasn't going to survive. It was either Waterlife Octozin or Interpet Anti-Internal Bacteria meds that we used (I think it was Octozin) and she made a complete recovery virtually overnight. She's still with us now about 6-9 months later.

It doesn't always work, I had another dropsified(!) fish, a guppy, that it didn't work for. I didn't just drop the Octozin in the water and let it dissolve itself either, I put it in a tub of tank water and crushed it up in there before spreading over the top of the tank.

Good luck with your fishy, I know what it's like when they get sick (as anyone reading my current disaster thread knows!)
