i think that my red wag platy has dropsy, its stomach seems to have ballooned up, and the scales seem to have became like spaced apart and kinda stretched looking because of its stomach size growing, i cant tell for sure what it is, but i know its not normal because it didnt look like that when i brought it, but i cant tell for sure if thats the problem with it :( ?

it does sound like dropsy to me... sorry mate :(

That certainly sounds like dropsy. They call the raised scales 'pineconing' because it makes the fish look like a pinecone, especially if viewed from above. Unfortunately when it gets to that stage there's usually very little you can do for them as their internal organs are too badly damaged to recover. If you want to try to help it you can use Interpet number 9 anti internal bacteria med along with a low dose of salt to reduce the swelling.

okay thanks guys, its been like it for a few weeks now, i thought it was just a bit fat, until i took some time to have a good look at it. i'll have to get some ASAP so i can treat it, if its not too far gone to help it that is!

Sounds like dropsy and I just lost my twin barred platy from it. :/

Dropsy isn't necessarily caused by bacteria, it is a symptom, not a disease. Dosing with a specific medication may be the wrong thing to do. As you rightly say, there is probably nothing that can be done to help, but to try to reduce the swelling use Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate), rather than salt (Sodium Chloride).
