I had 1 Sunset Platy and a pregnant swordtail dir on me over the weekend from what looks like an internal bacterial infection. The signs being fir cone scales, bloated and bulging eyes.

My water params were ammonia 0, nitrate 10ppm, nitrite 0, temp 26 degrees C and pH 7.4

I have done a water change and added Anti Internal Bacterial Infection medication, after removing the carbon media from my filter.

My question is, is the only course of action I can take?

My other fish show no obvious signs of disease, and hopefully won't.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Keep doing regular water changes(while maintaining levels of meds in water) and feed your fish some vegetable based foods like algae wafers of "vegetable" flakes by TetraPro, or even some blanched cucumber, this should help sort out the bloating a bit, you may also want to try adding some melafix to the water as it is good at helping treat eye related problems as well as just being a general med aid :) .

Boil some peas too. They're great for the fish. I feed my platies peas like 3 times a week, and it's great fot them. Just boil them for like 2 minutes, let it cool, pop the pea out of the shell, break it into small pieces and feed it to them.

Thanks Love_fish, isn't peas good for constipation in fish too?

Sure is. I'm pretty sure its good for their swim bladder too, not completely sure though.

Good luck, and it may take a few feedings for them to start liking the peas.

I usually find that not feeding them for 2 days, then introducing new food works!

When ur hungry, food is food! :p
