I had a case of white spot recently which wiped out 99%of my cardinals, both my clown loachs, 5 of my platy fry, and my 2 beautiful black mollies.I now only have 1 adult platy, 1 cardinal, and 3 fry and was wondering about a change of water.I dont have a spare tank to keep them in while i do a complete clean of the tank...any suggestions.

Hi,
Whitespot can only be eradicated in its free swimming stage in it's lifecycle. Once you see the cysts (white spots resembling grains of salt) on the host fishes body, Increase your temperature to speed up the lifecycle, the cysts will then burst and tiny protozoa's will be free swimming looking for another host fish to infect and so the cycle goes on, weakening the fishes immune system and leaving them open to secondary infections.
I like to use Protozin by Waterlife for the treatment of this Disease. (Use as directed by the manufacturers)
An excellent product.

Is that the stuff that turns your tank a dark blue colour?

I used Garlic gurad and soaked my food in it, fed it to the fish and after a day or 2 all white spot was gone, this has worked on both my tropical and one of my marine fish, garlic is completly natural, boosts their immune system and has many other uses, same as vinegar really, only dont stick vinegar in your tank :)

Looks like you managed to treat them early and boost their immune system as Garlic guard is a health enhancer and not targeted at whitespot directly.

Goes to prove that good health can help fish fight off the diseases themselves :)
