My Co2 Glass Drop checkers have arrived, the instructions say:

"First, join 7 drops of testing linquid in the long-term tester, then, add about 5ml water of the jar, Overturn the tester....blah blah place in tank"

Now, i know its from china, but lol!

7 drops of testing liquid, and 5ml of tap water or tank water?

You need a few ml's of 4DKH water, you can buy this or make it up yourself, and use as many drops of reagent as you need, my DC has about 2ml's of 4DKH water and 2 drops of bromophenol blue indicator.

Use what quantity makes it easiest for you to see, but you should need no more than 1 or 2 drops.

I thought you just used the 4DKH without adding anything?

No - 4dkh water is pure water with some Sodium Bicarbonate added, it is a colourless solution and doesn't indicate a change in PH, an acid based indicator is required, Bromothymol blue is a popular choice, low range PH test kits are suitable also.

This is the drop checker i got, i already comes with a solution and says nothing else about certain water types i should use. might email the seller.

That's the same one I've got, the reason you use 4DKH solution is because it contains only water and Sodium Bicarbonate, at 4DKH, at this concentration we know that when the drop checker is green, there is approximately 30PPM of CO2 in the water, if you use plain tank water there are other organics and inorganics which can alter the KH, which means the readings will be unreliable and very inaccurate, the instructions that come with this product are terrible and I would discard them.

v quick response from the seller, 4dkh solution ordered. bleh.
