Hey guys... I just realized that the bowfront tank that i just set up has a mirror back not regular glass. at some point I would like to add a sump without the overflow type plumbing. would I just use the same bit as if I were going to drill regular glass?

thanks oh... and Im guessing that I would use the 1/2" bit... is this correct

Could you not employ an "Overflow Box"

Just an idea as a half inch hole isn't going to be big enough.

I have heard horror stories about overflow boxes and how easy they are to have brakes in the syphen causing flooding.. as Im on the 4th floor of an apartment building... floods are most likely not something I want to chance... though I have contenplated it for a few months.

Well that would definately make you popular with the neighbours.
If you are going to drill then. I would drill for two drains rather than one, the reason being if one gets blocked by a critter or debris then the other will handle the flow until you can clear the offending blockage. (failsafe)
I'd have the tank drilled professionally, Theres gonna be a lot of water and gunk about after the drill. (I work in a glass factory (glasscutter) I got a work colleague to do mine who is conversant in that dept.
