basiclly ive had a rio 125 set up for a few weeks and have since been given a juwel vision 180 that i want to sump but im not sure i can drill the base of the tank or not or go for a overflow box

It is pretty easy to drill for an overflow. Personally I wouldn't drill the base and would drill the side or the back instead (weir will then take less space in the display tank).

You just need a decent slow speed drill and a diamond edged ceramic hole saw (you can normally pick these up off ebay for a few pound).

When drilling the holes the trick is to take it REALLY slowly. Dont push down on the drill and let the hole saw do the work. It gradually grinds away the hole out of the glass. Also make sure you constantly have cold water running over it to keep it nice and cool.

Obviously you also need to make sure you have the right sized weir and hole to cover the amount of flow you want to put through the sump and also make sure you drill at least 2 so that if one blocks the other will still work and you wont get a flooded display tank.
