Hello,
I have been doing some research on this topic, and came up with some mixed answers from different search engines on google. My driftwood was purchased from my LFS on saturday and went straight into buckets to soak. It sinks perfectly in the buckets and doesn't even attempt to float (I don't have it weighed down or anything)... I have been changing the water everyday and replacing with warm water. I rinse the wood off under the faucet each time I change the water, and as of today the water in one bucket looks clear (been soaking since yesterday in the morning) and the other bucket it is pretty much completely clear also, maybe a TINY bit of tea color but honestly its clearer then it is stained. So total, the wood has been soaking for 5 days now, with water changed every day (except for today, it hasent been changed).

I was wondering if you all thought it would be OK to place it in the tank? I have my plants in the tank and I do not want them to start to root and then have to pull them out and replace since i just kind of "threw" them in for the time being until the wood was cured. I was thinking even if the one piece leached any tannins I could do a water change, and I do run carbon in the filter to keep the water crystal clear.

The 29g tank houses
7 tetras (5 black skirts and 3 neons)
2 blue gouramis
2 swords
5 cory cats
1common pleco.

As long ad you give it a scrub to remove dirt and loose particles, then bogwood or dritftwood is fine to go straight in the tank. Many fish like tannins as it better replicates their natural environment. I wish mine still leached tannins!

As stated above it should be fine, if you don't like the brownish tint that tannins give the water you can use carbon in the filter which helps to remove it.

I agree with fishprotecter, I really liked my stained water. Made Colours really stand out!

I scrubbed it really good and got everything loose, rinsed it off a bunch of times also.

I run carbon in my tank on a regular basis. I know people say you don't have to, but I enjoy my water being nice and clear for the most part.

Cool, yeah the more the colors pop the better! My lights already do a pretty good job of that lol.

WEll this is all great news/info. looks like i'll be busy tonight! Thanks a ton for the quick reponses from all of you. :D
