someone told me that driftwood n roots mak water soft...is this true...please let me know.

Driftwood, Mopani Wood etc will reduce the PH of your water to some extent, this is dependant on amount of wood, to volume of water etc.

I have had some wood in my 30 gal, and the PH has been reduced... very little though. Not enough to cause any deadly results. I wouldn't worry about it, unless giant amounts of wood is used.
