I have a rather large piece of driftwood thats been in my tank since I started it a little over a month ago and it's still turning my water a light icetea color. I know it wont hurt my fish and it is fading but I was just curious how long it might last?

p.s. water is greenish because I am treating for fungus with acraflavine

Should have presoaked as I am doing now :D Driftwood can leach the colours into the tank aslong as 6 months!

my driftwood done exactly the same, i even done numerous water changes, so in the end i took it out put it in a bucket and filled it up replacing with clean water every day, i finnally put it back in last nite after 2 weeks of it.

O and its better to use boiling water when you change it, it speeds it up.

ya..someone told me I should boil it but the dang thing is so'ooo big! UG!
Oh well. It is what it is.
I'll just keep up with the water changes I guess.
Thanx!

I have some large pieces in my tanks. I boil them the best I can before adding them. Boiling helps, but I still get tannins. It took quite a while for mine to stop releasing tannins, almost a year. It wasn't that much and only really noticeable when I am doing a water change. Now I am looking for more wood so I get to go through everything again. I have never tried it, but carbon might get rid of the tannins.
