hi guys
i live on the west coast of vancouver island canada about 10 min from the beach, i was given a figure 8 puffer and i was wondering if it is ok to use driftwood from the beach to put in the tank as it is expensive to buy in the pet stores here, i would boil it before adding to the tank.
any advise is greatly appreciated
thank :/

Yeah sounds ok, I know some governments don't allow things to be taken from the beach, not sure about where you live.

So yes, just boil and soak in for a while before putting it into your tank.

Also is your F8 in brackish water?

If an F8 is going to be kept in brackish water (which is should be really) then the PH should be higher than neutral. I personally wouldn't use driftwood or bog wood, because it may alter the chemistry of the tank dramatically and cause a PH crash.

i have him in slightly brackish water so i didnt think any of the salt in the driftwood would hurt

Salt in driftwood :S Fella is talking about the tanins leached from wood, they will make the water soft and acidic which is not what your puffer wants.
