Hi everybody,

Had a nice trip out with the wife today, no kids yayyyyyyyyy!

We had a look around at some fish shops and garden centers and what not, and found a lovely piece of canadian drift wood, which would look the bizz in my new 6" * 2" * 2" that i'm setting up, only £60. :D ( il take a pic if i can coz i'm up that way tomoz)

Is drift wood safe to use with discus, and if so how would i prepare it its quite big.

I thought about soaking it in the fish tank, before i set it up

Hahaha, my wife & I just got back from the garden center, no kids either!

Driftwood will be fine with discus, it will probably lower the ph a little, which is good for them. If you can tie up the bathtub for a day to soak it, that will work. Just make sure to clean any soap residue out of the tub first. Either that, or get a kiddie pool, a cheap plastic one.

Toss in some salt to kill any bacteria, and let it soak. Soaking will also get some of the tannins out, which is what turns your tank water a light tea color. You could also use bleach in place of salt, let it dry real good afterwards, & resoak in water with double the dechlorinator reccomended.

Thanks tolak, thinking of getting it tomoz, its that big should't need anything else apart from plants and a background. :D
