Hello

I would love to have a Lake Malawi tank, but i was wondering, will they be alright in a 3ft tank? I guess with a 3ft i couldnt really have the massive ones.

In the LFS they all look small, but there gonna grow. Which ones won't grow to big?

Thanks

Nathan

Its not neccessarily the size that matters for Malawi's, its the space they need because of their aggressive nature, especially with Mbuna, which is probably what you are looking at in your LFS. You really need a 55 gal tank (4ft) to keep these fish, i wouldn't keep them in anything smaller.

You could take a look at Shell-dwellers from lake Tanganyika, which are much better suited to your tank size. Google them and see if there's anything that takes your fancy. :)

Umm...ok

I guess i'll have to start saving :( This is the problem with Fish its so addictive and expensive :(

still a bit on the small side the 240 would be much better, you could try the fluval 1200 deep tank its 48"x15"x15" mine cost me £180.00 in lfs

The rio180 should be OK, i know people have used this tank for Mbuna but the duo deep 1200 will be cheaper so compare the two and see which you prefer.

My 48 breeder is just fine, keep in mind it's how you decorate that can be a factor also, if you cram it full of crap well then you're just taking space from the fish. If you like tons of rock and plants or creepy boats or roman columns or neon goofy looking stuff  then you need to start with a bigger tank.
