I recently purchased some Black Neon Tetra and one of them has a Double Caudal Fin.. Fish is perfectly healthy and is not disabled in any way.. Just wondered if anyone else has come across any other Double Finned Tetra's??

It has two complete tails, both have upper and lower finlobes! Not a split/damaged tail..

I'm guessing that there was a defect when the eggs were growing, like siameses twins but only one surviving with a double tail?

Lawrence

P.s. Will try and get a decent pic, but it's hard to take a clear one of a small fish in my large tank..

How unusual! Sometimes you do get mutations like that in fish, often its with the more popularly bred fish which tend to be quite inbred like angelfish, goldfish and common livebearers like guppys, but sometimes you do see tetras with strange mutations.
Its often from inbreeding, but sometimes its from environmental problems (some strong meds for example can cause pregnant or egg laden fish to produce mishapen fry, bad water quality issues can also sometimes lead to poor or mutated batchs of fry).
