Dorsal fin damage

I got home tonight and discovered one of my blackskirt tetras in the quarantine tank has a chunk missing from his dorsal fin. The tank currently has 5 black skirts and one (very beautiful!) gold nugget plec.

Should I add Melafix to the water? Or should I just wait and observe to see if this will heal on its own?

The plec needs to hang out in the quarantine tank for another 10 days before he goes into his intended home tank. Will the Melafix affect him adversely in any way?

I'm not sure abouth the Melafix hurting the Pleco, but I definately would read up on it to see if it harms bottom dwellers, GN Plecos go for about $48 around here.
