Dont try this at home!

So i come home last night and of course go straight over to the tank to see how my little world is doing
I notice the plants are perling like crazy!! Its awesome!!
The sword grew a new leaf from 1 inch to 6 inches during the day!!
Then i notice...my fish are moving slow....hmmmm

I test the ph and its crashed down to 6.2?
What?... so i look on the chart... 75ppm!! AHHHHHH!!!

Whats happened? Ive had a hard time keeping 30ppm!?

I look around, and then i see it!! My powerfilter has stoped running!!!
The impeller has gotten jammed!!

EMERGENCY!!! I do a quick 30% water change, and then get the powerfilter running again... I test again, and im back to just about 6.6 and 30ppm....

Sooo i now know the answer to a question i have been curious about.. with the powerfilter running, it adds about .4 worth of ph....

The powerfilter was given to me with the tank and has been running for prob 4 or so years...
I think ill replace that impeller so this trick doesnt happen again...

That was a close call.....but all is well now B)

Yes close call, lucky you were'nt away overnight, i think the highest ive ever had mine was 54ppm, fish didnt seem to mind they looked ok and just got on with fishy business.

You mean you havent been following Walts trials and tribulations as regards the co2 levels in his tank

Anywhere there was to much co2 building up in the water when the filter broke down, the filter up to that point had been driveing the co2 from the water and keeping the correct co2 levels.

Walt does'nt have a cannister filter yet and has been using powerheads to filter the tank.

If he had a cannister filter he would probably only need to inject about half the co2 that he is at the moment.
