i have conditioned my bettas for 2 weeks, and my female had the usual vertical stripes on body which is a sign that they are ready for birth right.

so i have released her and since i have released the female, the male chased her around the tank a bit and since then the female has just sort of sat in a corner and occasionally moved around the tank, and sometimes the male chases again. is this normal???

the male has built his bubble nest and everything so whats rong?

thanks

paul

Sounds perfectly normal although i've only just had my first spawning and that went a bit too smoothly.

How long did you have the female in the jar in the breeding tank. And how long has the female been in the tank since being released. I understand that it can take several days before spawning although a close eye must be kept in case she is in danger.....females can get away with only a few scratches or can be beaten to within inches of their life....every spawning is different.

Have a read through some of the topics in here....people have been very helpful to me.

Good luck and keep us posted how you get on

Mine were all set up too, Fantastic bubble nest last night , she was egged and striped up. This morning it was all gone and on close inspection she's got alot of fin damage. Guess in the end one or the other just wasn't in the mood. Maybe she got a headache

so what i have said sounds perfectly normal, also the female has bin in the tank for around 16 hours now, so you are saying that it could take up to several days for the actual spawning to take place??

thanks for help so far!

paul :good:

It took about 3 days for my pair to finally spawn. The female hid most of the time. Good luck!

Every thing sounds A OK to me hun, from experience it can take up to 6 days for a pair to spawn. I tend to go on the level of damage to the girl to judge if i pull her early. If it does take longer thatn 6 days i would stop and try again a couple of weeks later or use another pair as it tends to mean nothing is going to happen this time round. Sometimes tho it can happen within hours of release, i like thoes lol.

Good luck and keep us posted :good:
