well im still setting up my 35g(130 sometin ltrs) its 36" long and at the moment it has a pair of kribs and a trio of khuli loaches.

I have a few questions and i hope you fine people can answer them.

First of all in my 10g i have a trio of oto's, in the 35g i have spotted algae on the windows. If i put my oto's in the 35g will they be alright and when the cleaning is done i can just put them back in the 10g?

also in the back middle-left corner of my 35g either the khulis or kribs have dug into the sand and have made a sort of pit. it is right behind one of my tall aponegotons so it is midly covered with leaves. I dont think my kribs did it since they have taken over the driftwood in the middle of the tank. So i guess that flower pot on the right side will be for my bolivian rams to breed on when their ready and i buy them. Could my khulis be digging a hole to breed in? all 3 of my khulis are 2-3" so i think there mature.Any ideas? should i just flatten out the pit or is there a reason?

thx for the future helps, also could the algae have come from the new bulbs i just put in? i just recently added 8 aponegoten bulbs and 1 dwarf lilly bulb. I have DIY C02 and java moss, java fern some amazon swords and the others i just said i had. Also the ph is at a nice 7.0.

i know ive been talking alot but i sure hope you can help me find some answers! thx alot and bye bye now

just was wtaching the tank and noticed another hole being dug....by the kribs. the smaller one(the one with the dot on the dorsal fin) was in the corner putting sand in her mouth and then spitting it out on the edges....any ideas to why?

The kribs are african, they could be digging either a territory or a spawning pit. Africans are also very manipulative, they could just be peeing around. I have a breeding pair of oscars (ones an albino, the others a black tiger) and they will push their mouths along the ground to scoop up gravel, then spit around the edges. As for the kuhlis, they are diggers by nature, but dont generally dig "pits" as we think of them, they will dig underground. As for the otos, if you have a brewing algae problem, you will have to take care of it yourself. Dont rely on your algae eating fish to solve the problem, they couldnt eat that much algae in a million years. Trust me, I have a fully-stocked 37 with 3 plecs and 3-4 otos; they cant even clean a small amount of algae off the walls. Snails are better at algae-cleaning; they can eat about 100 times a much as the fishes can. :hyper:

P.S., is that all you have in your 10?

alright lol well heres a little update for everyone.

i went to big als after a fishing trip with my dad and here are my new stats for both tanks:

10g heavily planted or almost:
1 figure eight puffer

35g planted:
2 Kribs
2 Red bolivian rams
1 Congo Tetra
3 Khuli loaches
3 oto's (i finally moved them from the 10g since this new figure eight puffer is almost mature and he was trying to kill them;) )

i have about 31.5inches of fish in my 35g and i think ill stop now. maybe 1-2 more congo tetras but i think im done :)

This might be cramped for the 35g, not for inches of fish, but because of the nature of the fish you're keeping. Congo tetras are shy fish, that like to be kept in schools like any other tetra. OK with three, better with 6 or more, which makes them a great schooling fish for larger aquariums. A breeding pair of kribs and a pair of rams may be too much cichlid for that small a tank. Kribs are small, but they can be a royal pain when they're breeding. They will literally confine the rest of the fish to one half of the tank. Just be on guard.

Congos grow to 3 inches. Adding one or two would even be too many. Best to rid yourself of your current one :(

Yeah, just reread my post and only gave general information, though I did say that they were for larger aquariums. I assumed that the correct congo size was known by the original poster. I agree that the congo should go, but I also don't like the ram/krib combo, a little too rambuctious for my taste.

Yes, the rams and kribs may very well have problems. I find it's 10 gallons for most dwarf cichlids, so a 35 may still be too cramped

alright ill look into getting the congo another home and ill see how the 2 pairs of cichlids turn out
