Hi everyone, we have just got our first fish tank a few weeks ago and were donated some media, when I requested it from a local pet shop.
He gave me a very dirty part of the white layer on a Jewel filter (the poly pad), and i have sandwiched a small portion of this in between the green and blue filter media.
It has been in for 5days now, and the levels of the water are great, but I am now thinking that maybe it is in the wrong part of the filter, or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance, we have already read loads on the forum, and are getting better with the search button, but still not perfect, so sorry if this has already been covered.

). pH of 7.4, and trace amount of amonia (going towards 0.25 colour), and only trace amounts (slight colour, but not enough to guage on the scale card) of nitrites and nitrates.
