I purchased a dojo today, and I put him in the tank, went upstairs for an hour, came back down to look at the tank and I couldn't find him! Not on the ground, not in the filter, do dojos dig? Could he be under the gravel?

Check inside ornaments. if you have hollow fake rocks, loaches often end up inside. (This is where my khulis and angelicus hided for the first few days, dojos probably do the same). If you know where the opening is, drop a shrimp pellet next to it, and it will come out.
I have 5 Kuhlis that are like ghosts. I rarely see them and only knew all five were alive when I stripped the tank to make sure. And I've had them for a year. A few loach species including Dojo/Weather Loaches can be extremely shy and hide all the time.
You should see them at feeding time but they are bad for jumping out, one of ours jumped out during a water change, we didnt find him for over 10 mins, covered in fluff under the chest of drawers.....we thought he was a gonner but after 10 mins he was zipping about like a madman again......hardy wee things.
