Dojo Loach

Hiya

I've seen some golden dojo loaches at a LFS and also some none golden ones at another LFS - the more I watch these the more I like them.

I am wondering however what they eat (are they ok with algae wafers, veg and fish flakes)?

Are they ok in a coldwater set up? (I've not seen them in a tropical tank - however I've read a post on here which indicates they are warm water). (the coldest my tank gets is around 20o Celsius)

and finally....in the coldwater set up I have goldfish; would they be ok with them? (Don't tell me how messy goldfish are; I know, I've had this lot 9 years now); also an impulse buy last year, I bought a common pleco (I know he'll outgrow the tank soon enough but at the minute he's ok and I got him from a coldwater tank). So yes I have a messy bunch in the tank but it's looked after , would it be possible to add a dojo loach or two? (i.e would they be ok with the pleco?)

I actually used to have this setup many years ago(1 Weather Loach, Common Pleco and 2 Goldfish)
At first, the goldfish was curious and tried to eat the loach. After a week all the fish were living in harmony.
Remember all of these grow to be massive fish so as long as you have a massive tank, you should be fine. But dont add a tiny loach with a large goldfish as it will get eaten and most likely, both fish will die

I wouldn't get anything that can fit in the goldfishes mouth (or the pleco's for that matter).

Get at least two; they do prefer the company of their own species.

I have a friend who's passion is weather loaches; she's kept both angullicaudatus and fossilis for many years (and has even got them to spawn once or twice, although none of the eggs ever hatched, unfortunately) and she would tell you that they need to be kept in groups in a species tank of at least 5 feet long with high oxygen content and fast flowing water.

They can grow up to 12" in length. They also jump, so make sure you have a good cover on the tank!

LOL tell me about it, when I had them, everytime I opened the lid to feed them, they jumped onto the floor!

The friend of mine mentioned above had one that escaped while she was out and it travelled 10 feet and ended up under the de-humidifier

Luckily her cats 'told' her where it was and she was able to get it back in the tank before it dried up; they are pretty tough fish!

I got 2 yesterday; there was a 3rd in the tank so I'm tempted to go back for it.

They've been trying to get up the "down pipe" of my filter....If they get up it they'll be fine as there is water up there and they'll just fall back down but just in case I'm going to put a net over it so they can't get up it tonight .
