Hello!  I'm new here, so I just hope I posted this in the right forum...  :)

Anyways, my question is whether or not I can safely keep two "gold type" dojo loaches in my 30 gallon aquarium?  I've already bought the fish (kind of on an impulse), because they were in an awful, dirty 10 gallon aquarium with huge chunky gravel and no caves and they looked miserable.

My tank is the short(er), long kind, with a double filter, about 3-4 inches of sand, and plenty of caves and plants for them to hide in.  They are the only fish and so far I've been feeding them blanched zucchini and "Ken's Premium 5 Stick Blend."  I feel better about them being with me rather than that cruddy fish store, but I still feel like they'll eventually outgrow their living space.  :(

What's the actual length of the tank?

Dojo/weather loach, Misgurnus anguillcaudatus, can grow to very nearly a foot long, and really (according to people who are passionate about them, anyway!) need a tank that's at least 4', preferably 5'.

should be fine I think, I have mine in a 20, they just hang out at the bottom, zip around now and then.  They should be happy as long as they can burry themselves and root around for food bits.

also, I have never seen one get that big! Not saying it can't happen, I've just never seen it, most I've seen is like 4-5 inches, sure they can get fat though.

I've got 4 golden ones in my 35g its about 3 and a half feet long and they're still small but like to zip around and hide inside the sand. It sounds like you have a 30 long of some kind?  What are the dimensions

It's about 36 x 18 x 12.   Yes, I've read that they can get quite big.  ah!

That's a bit on the small side for them, long term, then.

Ok.  :/  My friend's grandma has an old 150g I could have if I needed it.  About how long could they stay in my 30g before they would need to be transferred?

for awhile at least, depends how big they are now.  Somewhat jealous of the free 150g though

It's a sweet deal for sure, but my house is also a little on the small side, hence the reason I haven't taken her up on the offer yet.  She used to have an elaborate saltwater setup with live coral and anemones, but she's getting on in age and couldn't take care of it anymore.  It would probably take up my whole living room, haha.
