I have a dojo Loach that is about the size of a swisher cigar. My cat has taking a likeing to going fishing in my tank. He got my 6 in Green terror about 4 monthes ago. Last night one of my buddies came running in the front room yelling! He had his hands cuped and said "dude is this one of your fish?, your cat was running around with it in his mouth!" Shure anough it was my dojo loach. So I put him in a quarantine tank and got a good sober look at him this morning. He has one good gash on his right side that runs about 1/6 of his body. Also when i look close at him one of his gills moves faster than the other when he is breathing. He seems to be happy (about as happy as he can be). I was hand feeding him this morning like i do every morning, he just seemed a little skittish. I didnt post this in the emrgency thread becouse im pretty shure I have it under control.

Thats abit uncool of your cat. Do you have a lid on your tank? If you dont id suggest to get a lid on top of ur tank so. Or you could get another fish that bites back hehe.

Yeah i'd definately advise keeping a proper hood/lid on the tank and keeping the cat away from your fish tanks so it can't terrorise the fish in the tanks.
The loach should heal up with lots of small regular water changes with StressCoat dechlorinator and some Melafix (to help prevent secondary infection from setting into the wounds. Keeping the tank lights off a lot will also help lower the stress levels of the fish as it will feel a lot more secure being in a darker tank, then in an open and brightly lit tank where it will feel overly exposed.

Dont worry, their is a proper hood on the tank. Unfortunatly as my loach was recovering the cat got him again. this time it was bad. I had to put him down wich was the hardest thing i have had to do. I Uthenize fish at work all the time, but having to do it to a personall freind was a bit much. Im thinking of getting rid of my fish tanks now :-(

i have a cat who took a liking to my fish also. mine started on my favorite guppy, and then decided he wanted something bigger and tried to take out my favorite goldfish. i got fed up with him eating and trying to eat my goldfish so i took some screen and glued it over any little gap that i could cover. its been afew months now and he has learned that he cant get to them.

Unfrotunatly they know how to open a hood. Im going to get rid of my tanks because its not right for me to bring fish home and them to get eatin. Its just not right. The old ladie wont get rid of the cats, so I guss its up to me.

i hate to hear that you feel the need to get rid of your tanks. is there no way you can weight down the hood??

Ya, when they got Mr. Dojo their was a 5 puund bag of gravel on the top. I dont even know how they move it  The grateing by the filter seems to be doing ok though.
