I know some people go out and buy fish antibiotics and use them on their dogs/cats but right now i'm pretty sure i have a nasty bacterial drama going on in my fish tanks(maybe fish tb) and i'm out of fish meds and spare cash. I do however have some leftover antibiotics from last year when my dog had a cyst. Can i use those in my fish tanks and how much of the pill should i put in if so? (30gal and 10gal)

i think there might be human antibiotics as well but they probably have codeine and other stuff in them. do fish like codeine?

I wouldn't recommend it at all. You don't know what the fish have, or what the antibiotics are. Codeine is an opiate based painkiller not an antibiotic and I would suspect fish do not like it.

What is the name of the medication on the packet? do you know it has codeine in it for sure? I used to be a vet nurse so I can tell you if the medication you were given is a painkiller or antibiotic if you give me the name, if it is a painkiller it will be useless to treat an infection.

i think its bacterial whatever it is.

in the betta tank it was just one at first and even though i have been medicating the water, doing more frequent water changes, giving the infected one salt and med baths along with the ones she has infected recently and its not helping much. one of them died a few days ago and they didnt even seem like they were all that sick.
(some are bloated, one has serious scale issues and they are coming off and it looks really gross, some of them have hunchbacks but i dont know if that is just something that happens with old age, some of them are lethargic but bettas are lazy sometimes anyways, and most of them have a little ulcer type of thing going on and they dont bite eachother really, also fins are looking strange/discolored)

in the other tank the trouble started when i put in some tiger barbs along with my angelfish and they ate one of its eyes and tore the fins of the other two angelfish. they are swimming crooked now but are still alive. their eye isn't clouded anymore but they have gone through a bunch of mess ranging from ick to cottony mess dangling from them. i have been medicating that tank also and cleaning it more. no saltbath for them.
recently they seem sort of alright. the one that was the healthiest sits at the bottom of the tank alot now, eyeball guy swims sideways and everyways special-like but he must be getting food in his mouth, and the last one looks hunky dory to me but who the heck knows with my luck.
in this tank also a cory cat has died recently and looked bloated but they might have been full of eggs, and a beunos aries tetra died; it was old but it seemed fine to me.

i did introduce new fish recently but not enough to overcrowd; 2 corycats for each tank (baby ones for the bettas), 3 apple snails(a baby one for the bettas:) and 2 normal for the big tank), 2 ruby barbs, and a buenos aries tetra that was supposed to keep the old one company but it died and i just have one again lol.

other than that there are two khuli loaches and two red eye tetras that have been living in the angel tank for a while.

i'm mainly concerned about my angelfish and my bettas and what i need to do so they will stop being sick. (oak leaves? vitamins? look for loose change and buy something specific?)

the human one is just a painkiller i found out but the dog one is:

clavamox
125mg
and there are six of them. would they help? or should i save them for in case my dog gets beat up by a cat again?

What you have there is called co amoxiclav when given to humans, which is a combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. I did a google search and you can get amoxycillin for fish (fish mox) but again I really advise putting it in the water. You would need to get the correct dosage for it be effective and I suspect you would just be wasting them. It also occurs to me that you shouldn't have any left anyway - you should always finish a course of antibiotics or you risk producing resistance in the bacteria.

he is fine it was just a bump, i think i phoned the vet and they said to stop because he was cured of the bump but puking because of the antibiotics, or my roommate who is a vet student gave me some advice. i really dont remember.

at any rate i would love to know what dosage to give but i can try and look it up. you have all been super helpful.
