So yesterday I got my female betta. I decided that I was going to breed my bettas after all, but I'm going to wait a while I just wanted to get them so I can definitly gt to know them and they quirks before even trying. Anyways I've had my male for almost a month and hes doing great and she is doing good as well. Anyways thr jar she was in had water that was unusually blue but she was so adorable and I know that people say that bettas from et stores aren't always great but I got her anyways. So I got her in her new water today and she was deifinitly not the same color I thought she was. She is a reddish brow betta with blue fins its very cool. Anyways I was looking at her after I got home form work, a little closer inspection. I see she has a little silver sopt on both sides behind her gills but it doesn't look like anything major. Anyways I have been researching for breeding and I have read about disease. Does what I just typed sound like something potentially bad? Anyways if it does should I wait to let her get used to her new home then start treating her...if she is sick and all. she does not act it at all. and my camera is crappy so i can't get a clear shot of what im talking about.

So I realized I said "anyways" like 20912812 times ignore that lol

If it's symetrical i wouldn't of though it was anything to worry about quite possibly some markings it has .......anywayssssssss by end of your threadi was pulling my hair out but anywayssss u said ignore the anywaysss :D :p

Right the unusually blue water is likely to have been formaldehyde it is a general treatment for fish to remove bacteria infections. It stains the water blue! - and your ornaments! Thats not to say she was ill to start with, a lot of pet stores use this treatment as a general cleanser shall we say. Its a good all round treatment but I wouldnt suggest you use it yourself. Dosing can be tricky (too much is most positively lethal) and its better with bigger fish or connected filtration tanks (i.e. lots of tanks running on the same water and filter) This is something common in pet stores so they may have been treating a fish 5 tanks down but because of the shared water her tank went blue too! As a precaution just keep an eye on her and keep her seperate for a week. if she looks dodgy then try some 'general tonic' treatment and feed her something hearty like blood worm.

Hope this helps

Tilly

Doesn't sound like anything alarming to me. If it looks like small grains of sand and you see a bunch all over the body and fins, that is Ich.... but what you are trying to explain doesn't sound remotely like that.

Just keep the water clean and the temp around 80-82 for now. That will boost her immune system slightly and allow her to kick anything that might be going on. If you start to see any new developments or changes in temperament, let us know immediately.
