I always use Protozin and swear by it but as I've now got BGK in, my dealer says Protozin may kill it and has just sold me Myxazin as there looks to be white spot beginning. So will Myxazin work? Doesn't say anything about white spot on it. I f it does then why do they sell Protozin too? Am confused!

The LFS guy's a personal friend and we nearly had an argument as he says I can't use Protozin with a black ghost knifefish present. Says Myxazin has always cured whitespot for him where Protozin's not recommended, though takes 5 days treatment instead of 3. Which whitespot cures are okay with a BGK then? Would Protozin kill it?

There is some malachite green in myxazin, but think it's only a low dose.
I would do a thread on treating black ghost knife fish for whitespot.

Thanks. There are no spots on the BKF but there are on the tails of my neons and tail of my blind cave fish. The neons are flicking on ornaments and each other too! Before anyone says it, yes the BGK is moving soon to a bigger tank away from the small fish!

You have to half dose with neons aswell as there sensitive to white spot meds.

Thanks. Well I'll try this Myxazin for the 5 days then if it doesn't work I'll wait a few days, do a water change and start half-dose Protozin. It's no worse, just a few spots on the fins.

Ok.
let us know how you get on as never heard of using myxazin by waterlife for whitespot.

Neither have I but as I say, didn't want to argue as my LFS shop owner's a mate but he uses it where sensitive species are, like loaches, BGK and elephant nose. He said "okay I've advised you but if you like, take Protozin and kill your BGK then, up to you!"

Neons are very sensitive to water quality. They need mature tanks of 6 months.
Also they can get ntd. Neon tetra desease so keep a look out for symtoms. Just to be on safe side.

UPDATE. Added 5th and final Myxazin dose last night and woke to Black Ghost Knifefish and 3 neons dead on the tank bottom. Other fish including other 7 neons seem okay. I didn't overdose the Myxazin. Did a good water change straight away. Four Myxazin doses didn't kill any but seems the 5th did. Baffling! Ironic when he said not to use Protozin as it would kill my BGK. White spot gone now.

Poor things R.I.P.

Whitespot can kill once it affects the gills.
Usually you have to treat another week once spots have gone.
The fish that have died, both types of fish are sensitive to meds. But I'm not totally convinced it was the myxazin by waterlife.
