Do real plants and the fake ones do they look good together or would they look kinda tacky? Because i can't really decide weather my new tank is going to be used with real plants or fake or inbetween? This was just one of those randome questions

I'd say nothing is better than real plants. Plastic plants don't glow under a 6500K light like real ones.

Some of the really nice silk plants look almost as nice as real plants but real ones are best - try not to mix them up... Specially not the really ugly plastic ones

IMO, If you spend a little extra and buy the "nicer" fake ones they look just as good as the basic real plants. Nothing beats some of the real plants that require some special care :good:

I have them mixed right now in my 80. Between my Jack and my pleco my real ones are always shredded. So I have just recently added in some fake, and the fish seem to really like it.

live plants - look better under water and instead of buying a air pump and airstone to create oxygen the live plants do that. live plants also feed on fish waste and nitrate. so all together IMO you should have live plants only.

if you do get live plants, if you want more info on the just follow the link in my sig. :good:

Urm, not *exactly*.... Plants respire and photosynthesise- they do both during the day, and only respire at night. I'ts photosynthesis that produces oxygen, but respiration uses oxygen up...

what does photosynthesise and respiration mean?

photosynthesis is when the plant gains glucose (energy) then can store it as starch. for photosynthesis to happen properly the temperature has to be right and the lighting. this usually works best in the morning and afternoon.

reparation takes place in all living things, all the time. It's the release of energy from glucose inside living cells. Every cell needs to respire in order to produce the energy it needs.

thats just brief if you want more info or you want the scientific version it would be better to google it.

i would go for live get a plant which is easy to look after e.g java fern which needs bsically nothing min lighting and can adaft to temp.

I have both mixed and it's ok but if you have a choice, live is best. Another good plant is anarchis, cheap and easy to grow along with crypts and anubias.

Hm i've seen some fake plants which look very convincing, but when put next to real plants it soon often becomes obvious that they are fake. If you are willing to splash some cash on good fake plants, you can get some pretty realistic looking ones there, but more than often the the fabric on the edges of silk plants becomes fluffy over time and plastic plants are bad for trapping waste amoungst their leaves in my experience.
I have some fake densely leaved plastic plants in my tanks, but they are purely there to add shelter for the fry in the tanks and nothing more, they aren't bad looking but i do have to take them out every now and then to clean them as they tend to trap a lot of waste in them over time in my tanks.

Live plants can have numerous benefets for aquariums and there are many varieties which are very easy to look for as long as the tank has some lighting in one way or another  .

Definately live plants look twenty times better than anything else. I have a tank of live plants...with the exception of one big plastic one to provide shelter until my lfs gets a tall plant in to take its place and provide shelter.

Live plants give a better challenge to mantaining your tank, CO2 injection, lighting, etc...

plus the help absorb ammonia and nitrites and nitrates ive been told
