Does Changing Te Current Have Any Negative Effects?

I have one female Betta in with my Platys. She's fine but I noticed her swimming against the current at one side of the tank then floating back and trying again so she mainly stays on the side where the filter is.

I turned the top around and it seems to have slowed it down. Is this ok? It's still bubbling along at the surface and ripling just not so much.
