Does anyone know what type of Angel fish these are? They're from an old Jewel catalogue and I think they look amazing. Looking to get a school of around 8 for a single species tank.

On an extra note what size of tank will I need for 8 angels? In terms of dimensions and quantity of water. Ive read 10 gal (US) per fish roughly so that puts me at around 80 gal (US). Is this too much or too little? AND what height of tank will I need, heard that this is important for keeping Angels.

Thanks

Those look like Koi angels. I'm not sure how big of a tank you will need, but an 80 gal sounds good. Keep in mind there may be aggression if two decide to breed, it would probably be best if you removed the pair to a seperate tank. Angels need a minimum of an 18" depth. Good luck, angels are awsome fish!

Have done a google image search and think you are right, although they appear to come with all sorts of different colourations. Anyone else's opinions on tank?

I think 80 gallons would be a good setup, looking at my 80 gallon it seems like it would be large enough. Shame you don't live here, my LFS had some BEAUTIFUL adult koi angels a couple of weeks ago apparently traded in by a customer.

I took some of the red out of that photo, just to see if the lighting was making it look like koi;

They look like koi to me. :) I have some koi almost identical to that, I'm trying to get a pair.

I love that almost perfectly round body shape, many breeders will sacrifice that in order to get more orange. Much of the orange expression in koi angels is due to diet as well as genetics. Getting a nice body shape can be as difficult, if not more so, than color.

If you look into genetics, there is marble in the lineage of koi, which are actually gold marble blushers. Check out http://theangelfishsociety.org/genetics.htm

That picture is kinda weird, the first one I mean :lol: It is so brownish you can't see the orange on their head. I agree now. I looked at it for a while and I agree :D
