Does anyone know of a peaceful, large centerpiece fish for a tropical tank?

I’ve been planning a 40 Gallon breeder, and I’m trying to find a good centerpiece fish. It can’t get bigger than 8 inches long. It also can’t be anything above semi-aggressive. And it can’t be something that will eat small fish, because I may keep blue tetras with it. It also can’t be super tall, because 40 gallon breeder tanks are only 16 inches tall.

I don't buy the centrepiece idea, but I find it extra difficult in a 40 breeder. That's a low and deep tank, and unless you are not tall, it is going to be hard to see a centrepiece.

A big group of blue tetras will do better than a centrepiece, which probably won't hang around centrally. In a 40, small groups will work better than one big fish.

Maybe more than one rainbow fish or a ram.

Welcome to TFF. :hi:

A 40g breeder is too small for anything much over 3 or maybe 4 inches. You are better with one or more groups of a shoaling/schooling species as Gary said, and/or a cichlid or gourami...all depends upon the species. But none of us can start suggesting any fish until we have the parameters of your source water, particularly the GH and pH.

Common names of fish are often confusing, can you give us the scientific name of the "blue tetra" you intend? If this is what I think it is, sedate fish like cichlids and gourami are out. I can explain once I know what is intended.

Edit. Just came across your second thread on this tank, I will post the above there to avoid confusion.
