I`ve got this book and it has this spectacular fish init...:)

Now i want to get one but, firstly i need to know are they good or bad fish..??!!

Its a Erpetoichthys ornatipinnis..

any advice about this fishy would be helpfull ..thx..

I am going to assume you are referring to a rope fish!!!

Given the ornatipinnis...again I will assume it is probably an ornate rope fish.

This is about all the info I can give at the moment, but perhaps one of the other members can give more.

Or a Polypterus Ornatipinnis

Ornate Bichir

They're both very primitive but fascinating fish to keep....

Have checked Baensch (1-3) and cannot find Erpetoichthys ornatipinnis only Polypterus Ornatipinnis. Have Checked Fishbase as well, the only Erpetoichthys listed is the Reedfish, only one of its Genus. They are related and have many similar characteristics, they were probably considered to belong to the same family once. :)

thx guys,, Gibbo, the Ornate Bircher is the one i intend to actuall order at my lfs.. i`ve read up on them but i dunno if they wud be happy with other fish or if they would be alone...

Apparently with big Cichlids/Barbs (Tinfoils, Cigar Sharks, Balas) they're fine, just don't like each other, real biters they are!! Big tank, tight, secure lid, shallow (12") water, cover (bogwood, drainpipe, cave) and a few plants and loads of big earthworms and they should be fine.... :)

They are also notorious predators - they eat anything that will fit in their mouths (bit like my ol' man  )

You definately want a tight lid...I had one for like a week before i found him across my room.(apparantly when they get out they can crawl a little ways before they die) but the week i had him he was cool

i had 3 and 2 of them are now dead, normally we keep the kitchen door closed and the cats stay there til we get home and we let them out,but 1 day we forgot and that happened to the day my 12"birchir jumped out(you draw up the rest) all i can say is BLOODY PAW PRINTS.

ime-there is 1 rule you must follow when housing these guy's,TIGHT LIDS.

they'll eat anything (blackworms, krill, feeders, pellets, phantom tetras oops i mean tetra bits
i just moved the last one to my office tank, this morning so now he swims around w/my newt B)
