Does anybody know what the minimum temperature a goldfish can handle (thrive in)? An Oranda (Carrassius auratus) to be specific.

if you check the pinned topic in the coldwater section it will say
74 -78 degrees F/ 23-26 degrees C

OK thank you I found it. 74-78F, would that in fact make it a tropical fish, with such high temp. preference.
The reason I ask is I just acquired a new tank from my mother that happens to have an Oranda in it and is only
a 7gl tank so I need to do something with the goldfish pronto. I wanted to toss it in a pond/marsh near to me, but it seams as though that is out of the question.

Although ordinary goldfish can thrive in lower temperatures, even overwinter, orandas are less hardy, and probably wont survive the year round outdoors.

23-26 degrees seems a bit high though, and is probably not a great idea as the fishes metabolism, the amount of waste it produces and its oxygen requirements will increase.

I read they can handle between 5 to 27 degrees celcius. Well i keep mine on 26 degrees celcius.

That temperature is 74-78 because Goldfish actually are not a coldwater fish. They are a temperate water fish. A true coldwater fish cannot be happy abover 68 degrees.
