Does having active carbon in the filter remove nutrients that the plants need?

Someone has recommended that they are removed and given this as the reason but want to check if that's correct before I do it.

Thanks

If its a bag of carbon and its been in there 2 weeks or more it wont be active, if its active it shouldn't remove the nutrients.

So I've been told lol.

In short, no it doesn't. If you're thinking of removing carbon that's been in the filter for a while, I wouldn't bother as it'll have it's bacteria colony on it. It'll only 'take up' for a short period of tile anyway. Some planted tanks (ei dosing) will use carbon to get rid of organic waste.

Thanks Ian I will leave it in then if it's doing no harm.
