Dodgy Fluval?

I have an old Fluval 4 internal that I was given about 9 months ago thats starting to get on my nerves, its in a 55G along with a cheap resun internal filter (rated for a 40G, no problems with it and its about 15months old). I have to it give it a good damn clean out (wash the sponge VERY well) at least every week or the power goes down to nothing. Is this normal or just becuase its getting old?

ive noticed this with mine, they do get clogged easily but you should cleab your filter once a week anyway i think so its never bothered me.

Yes, I'm afraid that's entirely normal for Fluval (in my time I've used the whole range of Fluval internal filters 1 - 4), and they are all exactly the same. They're all up in the loft gather dust now and have been replaced by external Eheims.

Thanks for the info peep's , guess I'll probably get arounf to replacing it sooner than later then. Sam I usually clean my filters ever 4-6 depending on the tank
