Well today I went into the docters office for my sports physical and in the room they had a betta in the dreaded betta vase. He looked like he had some slight fin rot but when my docter came in I asked him how long they've had it and he said around 6 months. He said they do water changes every week and feed him once every week and he said that someone told him that they eat the roots also. I told him about how they dont eat the roots since they are carnivores and he asked when to feed him and I said once a day. Then I told him about the fin rot and how you can add aquarium salt and it will clear up. When we were leaving we could hear him say to the other docters and nurses "Did you know you have to feed the fish everyday because it doesnt eat the roots?" and that made me feel better that I probably helped the fish to live a good life. :D

That's great :) it's sad how stores sell bettas with all this false info - it really is their responsibility, but at least you helped one of them.

And uh I have one nitpick.. it's "doctor", not "docter" :p

Oh and I am now wondering, did you make sure to tell them the only reason they can live in a vase without filtration is because they breathe off the surface, so make sure the lilly never blocks too much surface and lets the air in?

Yea my doctor knew about how they breath off the surface. And I'm kind of surprised that they knew to change the water every week, so at least they were doing that right. And they were feeding him but it was very little, every week once a week. But yea I feel good knowing he'll be looked after better now.

 folks are getting a bit uppity on spelling...I could make a career correcting errors, but this is supposed to be about fishes not grammar :good:
