Nope. Hatching tank for angels, plenty of rocks & plants for fry to hide when I was doing platys.

Well...I do and I don't. My dalmation molly was pregnant but I didn't use the net for her to give birth in. I let her birth in the main tank. Then scooped up the survivors when I got home from work and let them grow-out in the breeding net.

I use a 2 litre plastic ice cream tub for my female swordie and cut out the sides and bottom leaving a frame around the outside of the tub for stability and a put fishnet stocking over the tub so the fry can escape (this is in my other tank with only neons and cherry barbs in it ) to hiding places away from the mother just in case she's hungry! This seems to work better than the normal small breeding traps as there is more room and it seems less stressfull for the fish!

When i used to breed, i did, but thats because i had a bunch of gouramis and a Bala who absolutley MUNCH my little babies, but if i were to breed now, i would use something like a bottum of java fern or a carpet of somesort.

I don't use them

I generally let my females give birth in my heavily planted tank and mostly get some survivors

If I really want a particular batch of fry then I transfer the female to a 5 gallon planted tank the week before she's due and then I get lots of the little darlings

I allow my females to give birth in the main tank and then move the babies to the breeder net. The babies stay in the net until they're big enough.

I do not normally use a breeder net/trap. I did actually purchase one last week when Nicky the black swordtail gave birth as I didn't have any place to put her babies. I used it for about 4 hours and then went and bought another 10 gallon tank. I think they are way to small for a swordtail to use as a birthing area, I wouldn't put any of my females in one for even 5 minutes, they'd freak out. I usually either move my pregnant ladies to a 10 gallon tank or let them have them in the main tank. The nice part of putting them in the 10 gallon is that once labor is done, the mother can be moved out and the fry can grow up in the 10 gallon, beats the heck out of chasing fry all over a large tank. I'm now up to 4 10 gallon tanks for quarentine, maternity wards and recovery wards.

I have so many plants in my aquarium that the fry just lose themselves in there until they are big enough to fend for themselves.
