Hi,

When I visited my LFS today I asked whether they would recommend sterilising live food. As I'm going to be collecting mine from my grandads water butts I am a little concerned that I may add some nasties into my tank. The guy in the shop said he would definatly recommend sterilising bloodworm and sold me some Methylene Blue to do the job.

So I was wondering what everyone else does in this situation.. Also do you think his recommendation of Methylene Blue was good advise?

I've never sterilised my food. I have only collected food during food shortages from my pond which I know does not contain any pesticides or ferts or any such things. I just scoop them in a net and rinse them off. I know that doesn't change whats on their insides though... For all I know they couldv'e been eating all kinds of nasties and you are what you eat!

Teehee, you said butts...

I've never bothered sterilising, I just rinse off live bloodworms collected from the birdbath with a little tap water before feeding. No one has gotten sick so far *knock on wood*
It's probably not a bad idea to sterilise though.
