So you do think that one on the right is pregnant? The male is hanging around them constantly, day and night, she's doesn't seem to be eating now though, how long should I keep her in there?

I deffinately think she is pregnant, If there is a partition in the middle u could take it out to give her more room, that is always a help! I would keep her in there until she gives birth to her brood.

The male hanging around is no problem! What is your male to female ratio?

I have one male and three females. I was a bit confused which was pregnant so I put the two similar females in there separated by the divider, the other one is on the left of the first picture, should I let the other one out and remove the divider to give her more roon or leave them both in there and remove the divider and let them swim around together? Also, how long from this stage would she have to be in there? She hasn't even been in there a whole day yet and already I feel cruel. Lastly, her not eating, is that a worry?

Cheers,

Jay.

take her out. NOW.

I hate using breeding trap, there not breeding traps but DEATH TRAPS.

unless you have somewhere to raise the fry, you just wast money and time, and many life's. You will need at least a 5g planted to raise the fry. Or there be stunted and unhealthy.

I haven't got any spare tanks to raise them, I don't like her in there but wont the fry die if I leave them loose in the tank?

Probably be eaten. But like you said you don't have a spare tank and could risk overcrowding if the fry survive. I just see it as a nutritious meal for them.

Oh well, I guess I'll take her out when I get home, if she is pregnant then they probably will be a nutritious meal for my lobster probably, if he'll touch them. I have got another tank somewhere but it's not cycled or anything. It'd take a while to set it up really wouldn't it?

Jay.

Yeeeeeeeeh. But then you would have to decide. (1) Is it better putting all these babies in a new tank where they may die due to the tank being uncycled? or (2) Is it better leaving them in there to be eaten alive? What you could do is set up this tank for any future babies your fish have. Awww

I would start cylcing the spare tank anyway, even if it was only as a hospital tank...
as for the platy, yes she is pregnant, but I think the birth will only be in a week, or maybe even more.
definately take out the not pregnant one, and I would take the pregnant one out too, but hey, that's your call...

Yeah that's the problem, it's my call :) Nah, I will take them out, I wasn't too keen on it in the first place. So she is pregnant, I was a bit unsure as I can't see the gravid spot. If I start off the other tank cycling and decide to put the mother in to give the fry a chance, It's my first lot so I'm keen on them living, them being in there will start it off cycling, wont it? I can take some ornaments etc from my other tank.

Jay.

I have freed my platy and here is a pic of her back with her old friend :)
I'm really suprised she isn't dinner!
