Do You Nuke Your Bloodworms?

I scoop out some tank water and chuck the blocks in that. Give it a few minutes for them to eat the flake food and it's defrosted ready to go.

If I put the blocks in frozen, the BGKF or Clown Loaches eat the bloody things practically whole.

i dont defrost but i have trouble with frozen food in that it sinks to the bottom of the tank before it is all eaten. my corys and loaches usually hoover it up but the top/middle dwellers dont seem to get much at all. what is this cone feeder all about and where can i make/buy one?

I know I probably shouldnt but I stick my block in a net and run it under the hot water tap (shock horror :hyper: )for 10 seconds before putting it into the tank. I only use a 6th of one block at a time thou as my tanks just 10 gallons and only feed frozen twice a week so reckon I can get away with not using dechlorinated water. I am bracing myself to be shot down thou!

i throw the block in whole and still frozen, the angels and mollys go insane while its floating at the surface and breaking up then when it sinks the corys all gather round it hoovering up loads as the angels and mollys still pick at it...

andI`ve just seen my plec eating blood worm

I dont see a problem with this really. There is probably enough decholirnator left over in your tank from water changes etc to take care of this amount of chlorine before it could get anywhere near a filter.

I usually chuck a mixture of bloodworm/brineshrimp/mosquito larvae in together in a tub with water from the kettle and a bit of cold water from the water filter, stir about then dispense round the various tanks with a large pipette.

I was told to be careful adding frozen foods while still frozen to the tank as a greedy fish could take it in while still frozen and this can lead to health problems in tropical fish. Dunno if that's true, but it sounds feasible so I'll not bother taking the chance for 2 mins defrosting.

none of my fish can take it whole, no doubt the blod worm are a little cold but the fish just pec off the defrosted bits that waggle round the edges
