Do U Cut Plants Back ?

i have a 2 foot high tank and the plants in it that look sort of like Vallisneria spiralis they have reached the top and are still growing they curly across the top of the water they still look good .........would it be better to cut them down alittle ?i dont want to kill them .....i just thort maby it may be bad if they are too big ?
