ok, so im hoping to get a 125l jewel tank and i want to get some cichlids....

will the below cichlids mix well togther? any other suggestions to what other fish i could keep with them? im just looking for as many ideas as possible. I love cichlids, but im totally new to them so im doing lots of research first, but i really do want a tank with cichlids!

the fish i like and would like to have in my tank are as follows:

yellow Labs
pink convects (these are my favorite!)
Purple Cichlids
Powder blue cichlids
Bumblebee cichlids
Blue colbalt Zebra
Electric blue ahli

what do you think, are they suitable? any comments?

my god, are you trying to describe fish or bubble gum?

I'd like to come off all smart and tell you what to do but first off I'm in the US and therefor not familiar with jewels and the size of your tank.

I will tell you the experience I've had with the fish you listed though...

**(ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THE ~ADULT~ SIZE OF THE FISH YOUR BUYING AND HOW IT RELATES TO YOUR TANK SIZE)**

convicts: breed like rats, multiply like cats and mean as snakes to other tank mates ESPECIALY when spawning!!!!

Labs: awesome color, great temperments and simply gorgeous in numbers

PURPLE CICHLID....COME ON NOW..BUBBLE GUM AGAIN????

the 2 blue's you picked...gum again? what is it with the names of fish over there

Zebras: every one I've ever owned were mean and beat up all the little guys to the death! great fish IF thats ALL you have in the tank IMHO.

bumble bees are the same if not meaner!!!!! had em, never ever again..EVER!!!!!!

ahli's (fryeri)are gorgeous but grow upwards of 7 inches, a mild agression but would do well with yellow labs, PROVIDING they have a suitable tank size though!!!

So, there you have it, spit out your bubble gum ways , find some real names to the fish you like and dig into some research!!

ok... did i mention that im new to all this... ?

i was just going by the 'common names' of these fish.... bubblegum.... please....!! if it will help, i will find out the 'proper' names of these fish and then post them on hear... and then see what you think..

what im planning on doing is setting up a Mbuna cichlids tank, but i need to do alot more research first.....

yellow lab - Labidochromis Caeruleus

Purple Cichlid - Pelvicachromis Pulcher

Powder Blue cichlid - Pseudotropheus Socolofi

Bumblebee Cichlid - Maylandia Crabro or Pseudotropheus Crabro

Blue Cobalt Zebra - Maylandia Callainos or Pseudotropheus Callainos

Electric Blue Ahli - Haplochromis Ahli or Sciaenochromis Ahli

i hope that helps anyone out..... would you say all these fish are suitable tank mates...

thanks for info so far though.... :D

Hey Tropicana

As far as mbuna goes your tank is considered quite small. You do have some options, but you need to be careful to what you choose because most mbuna are simply too aggressive and active for this tank. You also really only have room for a couple of species. Yellow Labs are good, but everything else on the list will give you trouble, get too big, or are the wrong type of cichlid to be housed with mbuna.

Start off reading the pinned mubna topic for the generalities of keeping these fish.

Powder Blue is P. Socolofi and can be pretty aggressive in smaller tanks. Bumble Bee is P. Crabro and way to big and aggressive for it. 'Purple cichlid' could be a kribensis, which like a very different setup then mbuna - though they are from Africa they are from the rivers and are more similar to new world cichlids then Rift Lake cichlids.

Now that you have some real names of the fish you should research them individually. Search them out on the internet and check out informative websites like www.cichlid-forum.com for profiles and information.

Some of the milder or smaller cichlids that could do well in this tank are P. Acei, P. Saulosi, and I. Sprengerae.

thanks for your reply. Obviously i need to do alot more research...!!

how big do i need a tank in order to set up a good size cichlids tank then?

As i mentioned in your other thread, the standard juwel filtration might not be up the job either..

hello there budd. I would say that a 50 gallon tank would be a nice sized tank to start off with for mbuna. yellow careleus are always a nice fish to have and readily available, another would be pseudotropheus acei. I dont think socolofi are aggressive, I have 3 and there all very mild mannered, but maybe Im just lucky. a couple of red zebras would be nice. dont foreget to have plenty of rockwork for your cichlids. out of interest where are you? just wondering were mammafish got the idea that your *from over there?*. as its been suggested alread, purple cichlids are also known as the more familiar name kribensis, and I would not recomend them in a mbuna tank.

hey brewyn!!!!
