my female platy gave birth on tuesday and my female platy has still got a black gravid spot does this mean that she is still pregnant or not

Sometimes the females get disturbed while giving birth and holds in the fry, them sometime later she will give birth to them too. Don't worry it always happens with my guppies and swordtails.

They don't always drop the entire load at once. Like stated before, they can stop dropping due to stress. This might be fellow tank mates, someone working on the tank or walking by, etc. Stress also causes the mothers to eat their fry, so that's even more reason to reduce stress on pregnant livebearers.

IME guppies and platties rarely seem to lose that gravid spot, once they start having fry it seems to be every 28 days or so. They have the ability to store sperm so if there is a male(s) in the tank i would just guess that she will give birth in another 28 days. HTH and enjoy the fry. :)
