Do the same type of Platy need to kept together?

I have one male Platy left in my tank after a spell of whitespot and I'd like to get him a girlfriend or two. Should I keep to the same type/colour of Platy or will he happy no matter which I choose?

You could put different colours in there........I don't think it would matter that much.

I personally try to keep roughly the same colour together, I think it gives a better effect.

In our thin tank we have orange/red platys both wagtail and plain.

My platies are different. It makes them easier to tell apart, if thats important to you.

I have a red comet type platy, two dalmation and two that are are dalmation with red tails.

It doesn't matter as far as the fish are concerned. It is basically your preference. If you mix different varieties you'll get all different kinds of fry.

Thanks for the advice everyone, will have to see what the LFS has.

Be pre-warned, if you mix varietys and they breed, your local shop will probably be reluctant to take mixed breed fry from you.
