Guys,

Today i added 6 Amano shrimp to my planted tank and within two hours one looked dead.
He was jumping around like flea, which was really amusing, but he landed on his side and stayed there. I nudged him and he didn't move.
After a while i thought he must be dead and scooped him out with a net and placed him in another tank just in case he was toying with me.

Anyway it just lay in the new tank not moving for about 5 hours so i gave up checking. BUT i just went back to feed the fish and he was racing around like mad......

DO THEY PLAY DEAD??

Whats going on......the little bugger could have got himself chucked in the wheelie bin!

I've never heard of Albino shrimp  but I think your shrimp is reacting to the chemicals in your tank. Shrimps are very sensitive to ammonia, Nitrite and especially Copper. Also, did you acclimatise them before putting them in your tank? Check your tank stats.

again, i have never heard of albino shrimp eitherm try to get a pic, far as i know, they dont play dead, usally just reacting to something in the water, not sure but dont dead shrimp curl up and turn pinkish?

I've seen amanos act dead is after molting. For the first 10-20 minutes they lie on their side, occassionally rolling over and generally looking awful. :(

I wonder if it was pre-molt? I've seen them get frisky and lie comatose the day before a molt. Still, water issues sound more likely, even if it was only one of a group.

Sounds very odd and suspect. I've never seen Amano Shrimp "play dead".
