I was thinking about getting platys tomorrow.

Do platys have a gravid spot and how do you tell if they are pregnant?

how long does it take from fertilisation for the platy to give birth?

Pretty much all of the mickey mouse or other lighter varieties have the gravid spot somewhat visible, regardless of whether or not they are pregnant.

The give away is a rather big stomach, a darker gravid spot, and you can almost see the eyes in the gravid spot when it is time to drop the fry.

It pretty much depends on the coloring of the females - if they are lighter in color, you will always see them.

It takes typically 24-28 days between births...

Platies have gravid spots and it's eaiser to see it in the lighter colors. When you can see the fry's eyes pressed against their mother's belly, she'll deliver soon.

It usually takes around a month or so between each batch of fry.
